Wednesday July 21st, 2010

My goodness this was a long day! We once again woke up bright and early to go on a "Dolphin Adventure" that was given as a gift from our groomsmen! Thank you Stephen, Andrew, Jacob, and Si!!!!! It was nothing sort of amazing! Here are a few photos to tell you the story of our journey!

(The jet boat we were on throughout the trip)

(Shipwreck in the bay of Lahaina where we left around 7:00 a.m.)

(Camron looking handsome as usual; ready for the day)

(Me with a flower in my hair. I was wearing it on the wrong side for days before someone told me that meant I was "available." Camron put that to a stop immediately :) Now I'm wearing it on the left side to show that I'm taken)

(A view of the island of La'nai - our destination)

(Cliffs of La'nai)

("Sweetheart Rock")
Sweetheart Rock is about 80 feet high with a summit that measures approximately 70 feet in diameter. The “tomb” area at the top of the rock can be seen easily from an overlook on beach shore. According to Hawaiian legend, Puu Pehe, who was a young princess, drowned in a sea cave. Her lover, with help from the Gods, carried her body to the summit and buried her beneath the ruins of what is believed to be an ancient bird shrine. See below for another picture of the burial mound a little closer.

(A view of the four seasons hotel on the beach of Hulopoe where we spent the first part of the trip)

(Beautiful landscaping in front of the 4 seasons hotel)

(This was the nicest hotel we've ever seen! The rooms range from $500-7,000 per night!)

(Look at that view!)

(Hulopoe Bay - where we swam and snorkeled for around 3 hours)

(Hiking the lava beds to get a better view of Sweetheart Rock)

(That's a long way down!)

(Close up of the burial mound on top of Sweetheart Rock)

(Sweetheart's in front of Sweetheart Rock)

Snorkeling at this beach was beautiful! Our pictures are at Walgreens, so we'll post those later. Also, we've decided to get a digital underwater camera so we don't have to keep buying so many disposable ones.

(Waiting for the boat to return with new friends)

This part of the trip was so incredible! We didn't think we'd see dolphins but low and behold the captain found a whole pod of dolphins (100 or more)! The dolphins, called "Spinner Dolphins" were so cute and small. The not only would jump out of the water spinning but had several new babies with them in the pod! See pictures and videos below!

More videos to come soon - They take forever to upload...like hours...

After our trip to La'nai we headed back to the hotel for a break before a luau later in the evening. The pictures below are in front of a surf shop. We've been wanting to get pictures here and finally did today :)

Thank goodness we arrived early to the luau. We found a great parking spot, had unlimited drinks, got leis, and got to experience the Hawaiian culture before the amazing food and show! The Old Lahaina Luau is a must see if you come to Maui.

(I wanted a picture with the Hawaiian Boys - Tee Hee)

(Here's my real hottie!)

(This young man was incredible! He was making birds, fish, and flowers out of palm leaves)

(My palm fishie - Taken later that night at the hotel)

(Hula dancers performing before dinner)

(The music for the night - We LOVED it!)

(The food was delicious: Salmon, Octopus Salad, Crab Salad, Green Salad, Fruit, Banana Bread, Rice, Vegetables, Chicken, Pork, Taro, Poi, Sweet Potatoes, etc.)

(I'm just a little sunburned!)

(Desert! Mini macadamia nut pies, macadamia nut brownie, kahlua chocolate cups, and haupia- coconut pudding)

(Part of the show - an hour of amazing Hawaiian history, dancing, and singing)

Thursday will most likely be another lazy day to take a break from the sun.  However, we are hoping to make it up to the Nakalele blowhole and probably a nice dinner!

Love and miss you all! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
