Sunday July 25th, 2010

We had a slow day today but still managed to get out and see a few places. I was given a very informative guide book at one of my bridal showers called, "Maui Revealed" (Thank you Cindy and Susie)! The book is a little controversial on the island because the authors wrote about lots of places that are dangerous and/or sacred to the native peoples on the island. We heard about this while fishing so I looked it up and found an interesting article: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/May/23/ln/ln01a.html

The article warns of an area where some tourists were actually killed and of course I was intrigued. So we headed off to the Olivine Pools off of the west shores (close to our hotel). Don't worry we were cautious and careful and took note of the scene before we decided to swim in the pools.

(Well naturally the sign made us more curious!)

(Pretty Yellow Billed Cardinal in the parking lot!)

(Rock in in the distance)

(View of the ocean to the right of the olivine pools)

(The little rock in between the two big ones looks like a turtle!)

(The pools from a distance - see the little bitty people down there?)

(Camron making me nervous!)

(Floating in a deep pool)

(It's easy to see why these pools are so dangerous - The waves, if large enough, will crash over the sides of the lava rocks into the pools. In this case it created a beautiful waterfall)

(Jumping in!)

(Another view)

(A small blowhole to the left)

(Sitting on our thrones)

(Hello over there!)

After checking out the Olivine Pools we headed down to another geograhical sight to see "Dragons Teeth." With wind, water, and lava the following formations occurred.

(Gorgeous red rock in the distance)

(Some sort of fossil in the shape of a heart!)

(Dragon's teeth)

(Look closely and you'll see a sea turtle at the bottom of the photo :)

(Cam making me nervous again!)

(We found this maze too! At the center - a coconut and shell lei)

(Nice!)

(I found this little cone - not sure what it is but I like it!)

(I couldn't get a good picture of the burial site it was too well hidden)

After our sight seeing we cleaned up and walked up to a Black Angus restaurant nearby. The dinner was delicious and expensive!!!
(No dinner is complete without a fruity drink in Hawaii! The salad was refreshing and the steak dinner delectable!)

Tomorrow we are headed out on a blue water rafting and scuba diving trip to Molokini - A small island/crater found between the big islands.
