Friday July 16th, 2010

Today was a good one. We started with a seminar (the one we skipped yesterday) and learned about some really amazing things to do on the island. Then we went to our timeshare presentation (which would actually be a good idea in the future) and got our 100 dollars!!! Since we were already in Lahaina we decided to make a day of it and walk around downtown where there are lots of fun shops and booths and good food! Oh! and went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. Here are a few pictures.

The tree pictured below was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! It isn't obvious in the picture but each of the other trunks in the picture are actually part of the same tree! The entire park in this area is one tree branching all over the place, sometimes parallel to the ground! Amazing! It's called a "Banyan Tree." Here's a link to a much better picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Banyan-tree-Lahaina-Hawaii.jpg

After our trip to Lahaina, Cam and I stopped at the fruit stand again and I was so excited to find passion fruit. I really like the flavor but have never actually had the fruit. The fruit looks pretty gross on the outside but on the inside it's similar to slimy pomegranite seeds but really delicious!

(Those yellow wrinkly things are passion fruits! Here's a close up:)

(When we open these babies up I'll post another picture!)

The very BEST part of the day was when Cam and I decided to go back up to our first snorkeling spot at Kapalua Bay. It was around 5:45 so there were very few people there. As we started to swim to the reef in the sea grass area there was a small sea turtle and then all of the sudden Camron and I both spotted two HUGE sea turtles! We were swimming right next to them and although we're not supposed to, we both touched their shells. It was the single coolest experience of my life! Luckily we had our underwater camera and took a bunch of pictures. First thing tomorrow Camron and I are going to get them developed and I'll post tomorrow evening if possible!
